Welcome to Bright Ideas Furniture in Royal Oak, Michigan - Family owned and operated since 1974

It has been a journey from our first store in downtown Rochester, which opened in 1974, where we sold lamps and framed wall art - everything for the home except furniture!  When the space next door became vacant, an archway was punched through the wall and we added furniture - sort of.  Sort of, because the items we carried were termed "life-style" and, though lightweight and easily transported, required assembly in the home and just weren't very comfortable.

Fast-forward past our expansions into a large Detroit-area mall and into downtown Ann Arbor, as well as three studios which featured a line of quality ready-to assemble case goods. ROYAL OAK had a sleepy downtown in 1983, but the long awaited completion of the I-696 project promised to connect the city with its neighbors to the East and West.  And, the perfect building at Main and Third was available!  No one could have predicted how vibrant Royal Oak and South Oakland County would become.  Needless to say, we're glad we're here!

We are still a lifestyle store, but the definition has changed and the furniture is a lot more comfortable!  As our original customers have grown older, and their kids have become our customers too, tastes have become more discerning and eclectic.  You know what you like!  Our store is displayed with suggestions for room settings, but feel free to mix and match.  Our dining tables and chairs are priced separately, not as sets.  And so are the bedrooms - maybe you only need one nightstand?  Our upholstery and leather lines represent some of the industry's finest contemporary makers with many in the U.S. and Canada.  We now carry eco-furniture made of recycled materials and void of harmful chemicals.

Remember - if you love it, it can't be wrong.  By the way, true to our beginnings, we still carry several quality ready-to-assemble furniture lines from Europe.  We will assemble and deliver to you, or you are welcome to pick it up unassembled at our warehouse and CLEARANCE CENTER in Southfield on Telegraph Road if you want to save some money and build it yourself.
